I have been thinking a lot about how I can help the world. I really want to make a difference. I have been educating myself about the endangered Orangutans and how the palm oil plantations in Indonesia are leading to the demise of their habitat and in turn the entire species. Loggers are cutting down the trees to harvest wood and then people are coming in and transforming the land into palm oil, soy bean oil, and coffee plantations. It’s sad because one statistic says that we have only 10 years before they become extinct. We need to do something about this. Palm oil is in many food products (even girl scout cookies).

Important facts:
-90% of all the palm oil produced comes from Indonesia and Malaysia.
-90% of the Orangutans original habitat is gone.
-Palm oil is terrible for your health.
-National Geographic says the Orangutan species will be extinct by approximately 2020 if nothing is done about palm oil production in the jungles of Sumatra and Borneo.

Things you can do to help:
-Read. Get educated about the issue.
-Boycott all products with palm oil.
-Boycott coffee from Sumatra.
-Send companies that use palm oil in their products letters boycotting its use.
-Read this blog about trying to convince the Girl Scouts to stop using palm oil.

We must save these humble creatures of our earth. Let’s make a difference.

After Snowzilla and SnowKong swept through the Washington DC area I have started to question global warming. But who cares about global warming? Polluting is bad anyways. Why do we need a reason like global warming to convince ourselves not to pollute? Smoke in the air causes air pollution which makes it harder to breathe for us and all the creatures on this planet. It's common sense that we should try to limit all types of pollution whether the world is warming or not. Inaction because our leaders have to bicker about whether the world is warming or cooling is not the way to go.
Ok, I'm done with my political chatter. I had a lot of fun in the snow. It was great. I got to play with my dog, walk to the supermarket, and luckily I didn't have one power outage, yippie! I hope everyone was safe.

Farewell,
Noah Woods
